Good News For Us (Bad News For a Bad Year)

Good News For Us (Bad News For a Bad Year)

It all began at the start of a bad year,
I had bad events facing my back,
A tragic truth of which it’s been hard to take in,
Is that there are responsibilities that you can simply not protest,

And these responsibilities have an impact,
Every deep breath,
every minute inside,
Every mask worn,
Has had an impact,

Every laugh,
Every pep talk,
Every sound of guitars on a balcony,
Is still living,

The notes are on display,
ricocheting off every person and their dreams they’ve been dreaming,
The songs I wrote about hope haven’t stopped repeating,

And yeah I know,
The news brings punches that sting,
But they’re not finishing blows,
And you’re still breathing,
So get up and fight off the bad feelings,

Every deep breath,
every minute inside,
Every mask worn,
Has had an impact,

Every laugh,
Every pep talk,
Every sound of guitars on a balcony,
Is still living,

The notes are on display,
ricocheting off every person and their dreams they’ve been dreaming,
The songs I wrote about hope haven’t stopped repeating,
And the songs you haven’t stopped repeating will lift up your feelings.

Description

During quarantine, I have been constantly listening to music to keep my mood up. In this piece, I convey that and I convey the anxiety that is produced by constantly being bombarded with bad news. I saw a video online where there were people playing their instruments together from different rooftops and having fun. A lot of what I wrote in this is inspired by how we all come together through music.
