Social Distancing

Potato print using instant coffee as ink

A compilation of potato prints of stick figures inthe potato prints within a white blank background.

Description

One night early in the pandemic, we wanted to make some art to pass the time, and settled on making prints using items already in our kitchen. To make this piece, I carved a stick figure into a potato, made ink from instant coffee, and used the potato to stamp figures onto paper. Since the figures themselves show up as negative space, each is surrounded by a “bubble” of ink. While it wasn’t my original intention, these bubbles remind me of the invisible 6 ft “social distancing bubbles” surrounding us all.
