Description

At the start of the pandemic, I decided to begin this oil on board painting. It is a portrait of a gardener next to her front porch, surrounded by torch lilies, also known as red hot poker flowers. This place is her own “Porchville” vacation for the duration of “isolation summer”. The subject matter is pandemic-related, pointing to a masked Gardener. A version of a summer porch setting, this piece is about being isolated in a creative, inviting, and peaceful environment on a quiet street with no traffic, while staying safely isolated amid the pandemic chaos. The torch lilies represent a burning desire for the artist to become even more creative. The flowers are also representative of safety from fear from the first symptom of a high fever related to the Covid-19 virus. The painting was inspired during a time of no distractions within an enclosed though outdoor space. I love to create interior-type paintings so this subject also covers both interior and outdoor space at the same time.
