Counting Humans
I never thought I’d be as lonesome as I am now.
We’re all off-the-grid-the-hell-with-people
until it isn’t a choice.
I count humans on my walk—I count dogs, too.
Often the dogs outnumber the humans that I see,
creating a world where I share more words
with beings in fur coats than I do with those
with smooth skin.
Communication is a privilege
and the technology is only good until
the lack of touch exacerbates the loneliness
and we are left with the option to
talk to dogs
and count humans.
